Cross Cultural Dialogue Exploring Jewish Heritage in Taiwan
On September 18th, we welcomed a meaningful lecture at the Jeffrey D. Schwartz Jewish Community Center. Before the lecture, guests were guided by the JTCA PR team through the Museum of Jewish art & Judaica, gaining a foundational understanding of Jewish history and culture through its artifacts and stories. This sense of “memory” (Zikaron) not only forms the foundation of the Jewish people but also provides context for understanding modern Israel.
Following the museum visit, Ms. Maya Yaron, representative of the Israeli Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei, shared Israel’s modern development journey—from the Zionist movement to the challenges of the early years of statehood, and up to its current achievements in technology and the economy—giving everyone a clearer sense of how Israel has progressed step by step to the present day.
After the lecture, Legislator Kuan-Ting Chen joined the discussion, highlighting the similarities between Taiwan and Israel in resilience, democratic values, and the importance of international exchange, adding depth to the conversation.
As the Jewish New Year approaches, the event concludes with tea and a special treat of apples and honey, sharing the “sweet New Year blessing.” According to tradition, this symbolizes welcoming the new year with joy—Shanah Tova!
