The Israeli Knesset delegation visited the "Jeffrey D. Schwartz Jewish Community Center"

Dear friends,

We are thrilled to have extended a warm welcome to the delegation from the Israeli Knesset, marking their first visit to Taiwan after the country's borders opened.

This visit, initiated by the Taiwanese government's invitation, centers around discussions on topics such as "Economic Development," "Environmental Protection," "Democracy and Human Rights," and "Animal Welfare." The delegation engaged in meaningful exchanges with relevant institutions and leaders of our country.

During their stay, they also had the honor of meeting President Tsai Ing-Wen, visiting the Ministry of Economic Affairs, and the National Security Institute.

Taiwan and Israel share a vital partnership, and this visit further underscores their strong bond. The delegation particularly commended Taiwan's achievements in areas of "Democracy," "Human Rights," and "Gender Equality."

Led by Member of Knesset Yorai Lahav-Hertzanu, the delegation included representatives from various political parties, including the ruling party Likud, opposition parties Yesh Atid, Yisrael Beitenu, and others.

This year marks Israel's 75th anniversary and the 30th anniversary of the establishment of mutual representative offices between Taiwan and Israel.

This visit not only celebrated the close ties in trade but also aims to explore more collaboration opportunities in fields like "Healthcare," "Climate Change," and "Cybersecurity."

In this significant year, Taiwan's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Wu Zhao-Xie, hosted a banquet to welcome the delegation. We also arranged a visit to our iconic 'Jeffrey D. Schwartz Jewish Community Center.' The visit to this splendid center left an indelible impression on everyone, as they were awestruck by its grandeur and magnificence – a truly unique gem in Taiwan. The culinary creations from our Kosher Culinary Lab pleasantly surprised the delegates, offering dishes prepared meticulously according to Kosher standards, a rarity in Taiwan.

Through this visit, we aspire to nurture even closer exchanges between Taiwan and Israel, cultivating a mutually advantageous and thriving partnership for the long term.

Empowering Community Resilience and Ensuring Safety

Successful Conclusion of the 2023 Joint Counter-Terrorism and Security Exercises at the JCC

It is important to note that Taiwan is a safe place committed to ensuring the complete safety of everyone residing within its borders. The government of Taiwan is dedicated to providing a secure environment for all individuals.

Various incidents have occurred worldwide, targeting Jewish community centers. These incidents highlight the importance of counter-terrorism efforts and the need to safeguard the safety of such centers and their members.

In the 2023 Global Safety/Crime Index rankings, Taiwan has been ranked as the third safest country among 142 countries and 416 cities worldwide. This reflects the exceptionally low crime rate and overall safety of Taiwan.

While Taiwan is generally recognized as a safe and peaceful nation, precautions are taken to ensure the safety of the “Jeffrey D. Schwartz Jewish Community Center;” and its members. The center aims to offer a secure and welcoming

space for visitors of all backgrounds to experience the beauty of culture.

To strengthen security measures, a recent counter-terrorism and security exercise was conducted at the center by the National Police Agency, The JCC internal security force and the Israeli Representative Office in Taiwan. We express our gratitude to all the units involved in this exercise.

The center operates on a reservation-based system and implements an automatic security gate for visitor entry. These measures are in place to prioritize the safety and protection of all visitors.

We warmly welcome you to visit the “Jeffrey D. Schwartz Jewish Community Center”, you can make an online reservation and explore our “Museum of Jewish Art & Judaica”, which offers thousand years of Jewish culture. Additionally, indulge in a Kosher culinary experience at the only kosher kitchen in Taiwan, the “Kosher Culinary Lab.”

Embracing the Restful Spirit of Shabbat-A Glimpse into Jewish Tradition.

In a world consumed by endless distractions and relentless demands, we often find ourselves yearning for respite and a deeper sense of purpose. For the Jewish community, there is a cherished day that rises above the chaos—a sacred oasis of tranquility and connection known as Shabbat.

As the sun sets every Friday, a profound transformation takes place. Jews honor the Divine's example from the Book of Genesis, where God created the universe in six days and rested on the seventh. In this spirit, Shabbat becomes a sanctuary—a time to release the burdens of the week, to reflect, and to bask in the embrace of loved ones.

During the sacred hours of Shabbat, souls are nourished, and the noise of the outside world fades away. It is a time for heartfelt prayer, for deepening our spiritual connection, and for cherishing the bonds that unite us with our families. As we detach from the mundane, we immerse ourselves in meaningful rituals, setting aside work, refraining from activities that disrupt the sanctity of the day, and forging a path toward harmony.

Imagine Shabbat as a sanctuary where electronic devices find rest, allowing us to unplug and recharge our own spirits. It is a time of restoration, a moment to realign our priorities and embrace the profound beauty of existence.

Though Shabbat is an ancient tradition, it remains an eternal source of wisdom and guidance. In the modern era, it continues to offer a delicate balance, nurturing our spirituality, fostering deep connections, and restoring harmony to our minds and bodies. It is a gateway to a life of enriched quality, where we can savor the gifts of each moment and discover the true essence of being.

Embrace the transformative power of Shabbat and embark on a journey of self-discovery, renewal, and a deeper connection to the divine.
