Honoring a Lasting Friendship — Founder Jeffrey D. Schwartz Attends the Friendship Medal of Diplomacy Presentation and Farewell Luncheon for Representative Maya Yaron

On June 9, 2026, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs François Chihchung Wu, on behalf of Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung, presented Taiwan's Friendship Medal of Diplomacy to Maya Yaron, Representative of the Israel Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei, in recognition of her outstanding contributions to strengthening Taiwan–Israel relations during her three years of service.

Jeffrey D. Schwartz, Founder of the Jeffrey D. Schwartz Jewish Community Center, was invited to attend both the medal presentation ceremony and the farewell luncheon hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, joining distinguished guests from Taiwan and Israel in marking this meaningful occasion. Also in attendance was Ambassador Abby Lee, Taiwan's Representative to Israel, who made a special trip from Israel to join Representative Yaron and witness this important moment.

Since arriving in Taiwan in 2023, Representative Yaron has actively promoted cooperation between Taiwan and Israel in technology, trade, education, culture, and tourism. Throughout a period of rapid global change, she has consistently demonstrated that lasting diplomacy is built not only through governments, but also through mutual understanding and genuine relationships between people.

During Representative Yaron's tenure in Taiwan, Ambassador Abby Lee worked closely with her from Israel to strengthen bilateral relations. While serving in their respective posts, the two representatives maintained a close partnership, advancing cooperation in diplomacy, technology, trade, education, and cultural exchange. Representative Lee's special return from Israel to attend the award ceremony reflected not only their longstanding professional partnership, but also the enduring friendship and mutual trust between Taiwan and Israel.

This vision closely reflects the mission that JTCA has pursued for many years.

Together with the late Na Tang, Founder Jeffrey D. Schwartz established the Jewish Taiwan Cultural Association (JTCA) and the Jeffrey D. Schwartz Jewish Community Center, creating a platform dedicated to cultural education, community engagement, holiday celebrations, and people-to-people exchange between Taiwan and Israel.

During Representative Yaron's tenure, JTCA and JCC welcomed numerous delegations from the Israeli government, the Knesset, local municipalities, academia, businesses, and international organizations. From Jewish holiday celebrations and cultural programs to official delegations and international exchange events, she personally participated in many important activities at the Center, demonstrating her longstanding support for Taiwan's Jewish community while encouraging greater understanding of Jewish culture among the Taiwanese public.

To us, she has always been one of the strongest advocates for people-to-people exchange between Taiwan and Israel.

The farewell luncheon was hosted by Deputy Minister François Chihchung Wu on behalf of Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung. Distinguished guests included Israel Strulov, Incoming Representative of Israel to Taiwan; Moriah Segal, Deputy Representative; Founder Jeffrey D. Schwartz; Richard Lu, Chairman of the Chinese International Economic Cooperation Association; and Lee Chih-hung, Deputy Secretary-General of the International Cooperation and Development Fund, among many others. Discussions throughout the luncheon focused on high technology, artificial intelligence, economic cooperation, and future opportunities for Taiwan–Israel collaboration.

Although Taiwan and Israel are separated by thousands of kilometers, they share the values of democracy, freedom, innovation, and resilience. The continued growth of this friendship is made possible not only through government efforts, but also through the dedication of civic organizations, cultural leaders, and individuals committed to building lasting relationships.

As Representative Yaron prepares for her next diplomatic assignment, she leaves behind not only meaningful diplomatic achievements, but also friendships built on sincerity, trust, and mutual respect.

JTCA sincerely thanks Representative Maya Yaron for her friendship and steadfast support of Taiwan–Israel relations over the past three years. Looking ahead, we will continue to uphold the vision of Founder Jeffrey D. Schwartz and the late Na Tang by promoting cultural understanding, educational initiatives, and community engagement that strengthen the enduring friendship between Taiwan and Israel.

When a Nation's Independence Day Came to JCC — Celebrating Israel's 78th Independence Day

On June 10, the Jeffrey D. Schwartz Jewish Community Center (JCC) was honored to host the 78th Independence Day Celebration of the State of Israel, organized by the Israel Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei.

National Day celebrations are often held in formal banquet halls. This year, however, the Israel Economic and Cultural Office chose a different setting—bringing one of Israel's most important national celebrations into the JCC.

Guests were welcomed not by a traditional reception, but by a vibrant Israeli-style cultural marketplace. Five themed exhibition areas introduced Israel's history, innovation, cuisine, culture, and everyday life through interactive experiences, authentic food, and engaging stories, creating the feeling of walking through the streets of Israel while remaining in the heart of Taipei.

Distinguished guests from government, diplomatic, academic, business, and cultural communities gathered to celebrate the 78th anniversary of the State of Israel. Yet for the JCC, the evening represented something even more meaningful—the continued growth of cultural exchange between Taiwan and Israel.

For many years, the Jeffrey D. Schwartz Jewish Community Center has promoted Jewish culture through festivals, educational programs, guided tours, art exhibitions, kosher cuisine, and international exchanges. It has become a place where Taiwanese visitors can better understand Jewish traditions, while Jewish visitors from around the world can gather, celebrate, and strengthen their connections while in Taiwan.

For this reason, hosting Israel's Independence Day at the JCC carried significance far beyond the choice of venue. It reflected the trust, friendship, and shared vision that have been built over many years. More than simply a building, the JCC has become a place where culture is understood and meaningful dialogue naturally takes place.

The most memorable moment of the evening came during the remarks delivered by Maya Yaron, Representative of the Israel Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei, who is concluding her diplomatic service in Taiwan.

Reflecting on the past three years, she spoke about the many ways Taiwan and Israel have grown closer—from cultural and educational exchanges to technological cooperation, tourism, and people-to-people connections.

Toward the conclusion of her speech, she offered a special tribute to Jeffrey D. Schwartz, Founder of the JCC.

She remarked that every diplomat hopes to meet someone like Jeffrey in the country where they serve. Through his longstanding dedication to cultural exchange between Taiwan, Israel, and the global Jewish community, he has created opportunities for people of different backgrounds to meet, understand one another, and build genuine friendships.

She further described Mr. Schwartz as, in many ways, an unofficial ambassador for Israel in Taiwan.

Her words were not only a tribute to one individual, but also a recognition of the important role that cultural and people-to-people exchange plays in strengthening international friendships.

Over the years, the JCC has welcomed diplomats, members of parliament, mayors, scholars, cultural leaders, and visitors from around the world. It has become a place where people discover Jewish culture, gain a deeper understanding of Israel, and form friendships that transcend language and borders.

The evening also introduced Israel's new diplomatic team in Taiwan, symbolizing the beginning of another chapter in the ever-growing relationship between Taiwan and Israel.

Friendship is never built overnight. It grows through every conversation, every shared meal, and every meaningful encounter.

As Israel celebrated its 78th Independence Day, the evening became more than a national celebration. It was a reminder that the JCC has become a place where cultures meet, friendships flourish, and the enduring relationship between Taiwan and Israel continues to grow for generations to come.

Innovation as a Shared Language Between Taiwan and Israel

In early June, the Taiwan Israel Chamber of Commerce (TICC) held its annual Taiwan–Israel Business Networking Reception at the Jeffrey D. Schwartz Jewish Community Center, bringing together business leaders, entrepreneurs, investors, and industry partners from Taiwan and Israel to exchange ideas, discuss emerging trends, and explore future opportunities for collaboration.

For many, it was a business networking event. For JCC, however, it represented something more—a reminder that meaningful partnerships begin with mutual understanding, and that cultural connection often lays the foundation for long-term cooperation.

Although separated by thousands of kilometers, Taiwan and Israel share a common spirit of innovation. Both societies value education, entrepreneurship, and technological advancement, making collaboration between the two not only natural, but increasingly important.

During the evening, Founder Jeffrey D. Schwartz remarked:

"Each startup represented here is building a small piece of the future. Each partnership formed tonight becomes another thread connecting our two remarkable societies. So let us celebrate innovation, strengthen the friendship between Israel and Taiwan, and continue building the future together."

His words captured the spirit of the gathering.

Every startup represented in the room is working to solve a challenge. Every new partnership has the potential to shape tomorrow. And every conversation contributes another connection between Taiwan and Israel.

Throughout the evening, participants from diverse industries exchanged experiences, explored new ideas, and discovered opportunities for future collaboration. Many successful partnerships begin not in formal boardrooms, but over a shared meal, an open conversation, or a common vision for the future.

Over the years, JCC has grown beyond a center for cultural exchange. It has become a gathering place where government officials, entrepreneurs, academics, and community leaders come together. We believe that culture creates understanding, and understanding creates lasting partnerships.

We sincerely thank the Taiwan Israel Chamber of Commerce for once again choosing JCC as the venue for this important annual gathering.

We look forward to welcoming more innovators, entrepreneurs, and visionaries in the years ahead, knowing that every new connection strengthens the enduring friendship between Taiwan and Israel.

"Each startup represented here is building a small piece of the future. Each partnership formed tonight becomes another thread connecting our two remarkable societies. So let us celebrate innovation, strengthen the friendship between Israel and Taiwan, and continue building the future together."

Best Regards,

Jeffrey D. Schwartz
